Long-term Rhinology hands-on training fellowship programme

We are pleased to announce our Long-Term Rhinology Hands-On Training Fellowship Program at the Karnataka ENT Hospital & Research Center. This program is an advanced and comprehensive training opportunity for specialists in the field of Otorhinolaryngology, under the expert guidance of Dr. Prahlada N.B., a renowned ENT surgeon with over 29 years of experience.

Clinical Training

The fellowship provides structured clinical opportunities to develop advanced diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical skills. Fellows will be exposed to a wide variety of cases, ensuring in-depth experience in managing general Otorhinolaryngology problems. By the end of the fellowship, participants will have gained experience in operating or teaching on at least 80-100 cases.

Research Component

A significant aspect of the fellowship is the active research component, which complements the clinical training. Fellows are expected to engage in supervised research, enhancing their educational experience and contributing to the field.

Fundamental Components

Fellows will be involved in the evaluation, management, and care of at least 300 cases, covering the full scope of General Otorhinolaryngology. This includes participation in various surgical and outpatient procedures, as well as interdisciplinary patient management. The fellowship also includes the development and implementation of research projects.

Clinical Curriculum

The fellowship curriculum includes:

• Clinical and/or didactic exposure to patient evaluation, various OPD procedures, and diagnostic investigative procedures.
• Managing general Otorhinolaryngology emergencies and performing various procedures.
• Assist in various Rhinological surgeries.
• Perform various Rhinological surgeries under supervision.

Clinical Exposure and Responsibilities

Fellows will:

• Attend specialty clinics including Sinus, Allergy, and Headache Clinics.
• Participate in Consultant’s clinics and conduct Sinus and Allergy clinics.
• Take active part in operations during Rhinological surgeries.

Teaching Responsibilities

Fellows are also expected to contribute to the educational environment, including:

• Lecturing undergraduate students.
• Assisting in practical exams and teaching courses such as the temporal bone dissection course for residents.

Research Responsibilities

Each fellow will undertake four clinical projects in areas of General Otorhinolaryngology and present at least twice at regional or national events. Dedicated research time is allocated weekly.

Call Responsibilities

Fellows will be on call for special situations involving General Otorhinolaryngology emergencies and occasionally assist consultants on nights and weekends.

Resource Facilities

The fellowship is supported by state-of-the-art facilities, including cadaver dissection facilities at Basaveshwara Medical College & Hospital and a library with contemporary publications.

Funding and Fellowship Site

Indian students will receive an honorarium based on their Otorhinolaryngology degree:

• DLO: Rs. 50,000/-
• MS/DNB: Rs. 75,000/-
• Free accommodation in the hospital premises.

The fellowship is located at Karnataka ENT Hospital & Research Center (R), Dhavalagiri Extension, Chitradurga, Karnataka, India.
